Translating to mean “the women owners of coffee,” this coffee is a conglomeration of four extraordinary female producer lots in South of Minas, Brazil. The presence of females in the coffee-producing realm has grown exponentially over the last few years in Brazil. 

This coffee has an overriding nutty character with a chocolate and caramel finish.

Our seasonal coffees each come with their own story, which is part of what makes them so special. Here we take a closer look at the producers behind Donas Do Cafe.

The Farms

Translating to mean “the women owners of coffee,” this coffee is a conglomeration of four extraordinary female producer lots in South of Minas, Brazil. 

These lots were selected via the “Especialíssimo” program that works with the Cooxupé Cooperative to select top lots. The Donas producers are esteemed for the work and dedication allocated to the farm and coffee trees.

Varietals: Yellow and Red Catuaí

Sitio Casinhas

Run by Adriana Bueno in Nova Resende, the 683-hectare farm was inherited from her father at the age of 12. With his support, they were able to manage 4,000 coffee trees. After studying pharmacy in college, Adriana returned to work with her father and eventually took over the farm thanks to significant effort and dedication. With her work, organisation, and proper cultivation – Adriana and her family were able to triple the size of the farm. She continues to run the farm with all that her father and grandfather taught her. 

Sítio Baixão da Serra

Based just outside of the town of Caldas, Ana Vanessa Carvalho grew up in a coffee-producing family. Eventually, she initiated her own farm with her husband and through hard work and dedication, she is finding ways to improve quality and allocate more resources to small farms in the area. After studying her way through a number of courses and on-the-ground trainings, Ana has been able to acquire a plethora of knowledge on producing specialty coffee thanks additionally to the support provided by SMC, the exporting partner.

Fazenda Canta Galo 

Andreia Oliveira grew up surrounded by coffee and learned from her grandparents and parents the art of the trade. She now owns and manages the family farm with her brother and works to not only improve the quality of the coffee, but also preserve the history of her family. She cares deeply about cultivation, management, the ripening process and the drying of the coffee. Each step must be meticulously executed to ensure the necessary steps are taken to attain high quality. 

Sítio Douradinha 

After being born and raised in Sul de Minas, Paloma Bueno moved to São Pedros da União in South of Minas to work with her husband on a coffee farm. Her great-grandparents, grandparents and parents have all made a living in coffee, so her childhood and early days were filled with coffee. She now helps her husband manage a 47-hectare farm and works to improve the quality and adopt new processing methods.
