Herbazu Tonio Barrantes 250g


In 2011 the very first coffee we roasted was from Herbazu, a family enterprise in Costa Rica. To celebrate our 10th anniversary we’ve purchased this stunning coffee from the same family and are really excited to share it with you.

It really is a delicious natural processed coffee with flavours of pineapple, mango and berry in the cup.

The Herbazu organisation is managed by the third generation of the Barrantes family. Eight siblings operate 13 micro lots spread across 38 hectares of which one is La Planada, managed by Tonio Barrantes.

During the harvest, coffee is gently hand-picked, whereby only ripe cherries are plucked from the branches. After collection, the coffee is transported to the processing area, where it is sorted and spread on raised beds to initiate drying. Here, drying can last anywhere from 20 – 22 days, depending on the temperature and air moisture.

Once the attained dryness is achieved, the cherries are driven by tractor to the dry mill, located just 2km away from the drying area. After the bumpy journey, the dried cherries are hulled, rested, and loaded into sacks to prepare for delivery.
